Why Tiger Woods Missed the Cut at the PGA by Arlen Bento Jr.

What happened? Brooks Koepka Happened!

Yes, that’s right, I am going to claim that playing with Brooks for two days is not what Tiger needed after taking off 4 weeks since his win at the Masters to rest his body. Brooks is long, like 29-year-old Tiger on steroids long and accurate. Tiger was over swinging his driver, you could tell, right on the first hole when his foot slipped, when he doubled crossed his set up multiple times, when he starts down from the top of his swing way too quickly, pulling tee shots in the rough.

Brooks is younger, stronger, much better physically than Tiger may have ever been, and when you are getting blown away off the tee by 20-30 yards, it hard to take. Did Tiger try everything? Yes, he did, even playing big hook? Tiger should have just played his cut, laid back on some holes, and used his irons to score, I think he tried to work the ball too much. Unlike the Masters where you just about hit the drive anywhere, Bethpage Black was just too hard off the tee to miss fairways, that rough was nasty. I think in his mind, Tiger, had to make up some ground to win after Brooks started off with his birdie barrage, Tigers timing just got worse. I was hoping for something to catch fire, but when you don’t know where it’s going off the tee, it’s really tough. I think it’s good that Tiger gets a chance to rest, he needs to get back to Florida, rest, play some golf, and get is some tournament rounds before the US Open. Pebble Beach and St. Andrews will be a lot more friendly than New York. I still think he is going to catch and pass Jack, but the reality is whether his body will allow him to play enough to keep his game sharp.
